Designed a new layers feature which helps better organize the various elements on the story.
Have you ever been so excited to post an Instagram Story with all your emotions represented by the text, the gifs, and the images only to find that your gif disappears behind your image, or your text is so small that you are unable to select it and you end up selecting the wrong elements?
Well, this happens to me all the time!! And it is such a buzzkill! Enter layering! As designers, we are all aware of this concept. Its time to see it in action.
Worked on a use case redesign for Instagram recently. Check it out.
Just like design softwares like illustrator, photoshop, Figma and lots of others have layers to ease the overlaying on content, this redesign uses a similar concept on Instagram. The challenge was the small real estate on the phone and how to add this feature ensuring that the overall design is clean, efficient and also solving the problem.
After redesigning tried a quick prototype to see how it works. With the limitation of the number of layers that can be added, it works very well. And also considering that Instagram is not a design tool but a social media tool, it beats trying to analyze how many layers one might actually overlay for a single story.
